They Can’t Burn Us All
#TheyCantBurnUsAll was a grassroots movement led by China Mac and Will Lex Ham to activate all Asian Americans across the nation.
The movement was started in the summer of 2020 after an 89 year old Asian grandmother was set on fire in New York.
The mission of this movement was to activate Asian Americans and allies to stand up, speak up, and fight back against hate crimes and racism. Bridging unity among all Asians and marginalized communities was the goal. Large peaceful rallies and marches were held in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles throughout 2020, a year prior to the #StopAsianHate movement.
I led the branding and design effort with tee designs, rally flyers, and other necessary collateral for social media engagement. Speakers would wear the Proud AF To Be Asian and TheyCantBurnUsAll logo tees at events. Within a short time span, photos of supporters all over the country wearing the same tees was commonplace. It was truly amazing how design and illustration could bring a community together.
